my officemate jas and i have been planning to go out and watch a gig together for ages. we've been officemates for more than two years now (actually we got hired and signed our contract at the same time), but it friday night that we were able to go out together for a gig. we went to a bar in libis called gweilos.
one of the bands that played is named the spoons, and the singer (eric) is jas' teammate from her account. the group's style is definitely powerpop (somehow i was reminded of sugarfree, especially in their earlier days, although eric's singing has more of the rowdy tough guy feel).
(this is jas and eric.)
the band was the last ot perform, at which point it was just mostly the previous band players left in the bar. they played a couple of their originals - one song eventually segue-ing to oasis' champagne supernova. for they last song, they covered incubus' pardon me; eric introduced the song, saying "tayo-tayo lang naman dito" ("it's just us [fellow bands] here, anyway.")
jas is often the band's photographer during their gigs. i decided i'd tag along with the picture-taking thing.
at first, i had the phone's camera set at the normal night mode, but the colors didn't turn out well, especially with the red spotlight used at the stage. so i decided to set the photos in black and white instead. (it also had the added bonus of making the photos look more "artsy.")
jas was telling me about the band having a "cute guys in a band" look that the joke was that they might as well be a boyband.
more songs from the spoons could be found here, here and here.
the gig ended at 2:30, which was still early. after parting with the band, jas and i ended up in a karaoke bar, singing until before sunrise and sharing a pitcher of screwdriver.
