M.U. = malabong usapan.

a snippet of IM conversation between me and the boyfriend:

crazyangelblue : good thing i didn't meet you in party.
artificity : Because I would've killed you.
crazyangelblue : seriously?
artificity : I don't know. Maybe. I'm temperamental and fidgety in crowds and I bite when approached.
crazyangelblue : i noticed.
artificity : Maybe I should've told you this a lot sooner but I don't like carnivals. I think you already know.
crazyangelblue : yeah
crazyangelblue : not that i remember it in time

so last night, i woke up and tried to shift to a different sleeping position. before i drifted off to sleep, i saw the phone light up with an incoming call.

karlos was calling me from somewhere in mandaluyong. apparently he just left the house of this guy he was dating but didn't feel like going home yet. lately, we've been talking a lot about the other guy, and i noticed a change in karlos. the guy is normally snarky and haughty and mean (he's my friend, so i feel free to describe him as such); but when we talk about this other guy, he becomes this giddy young man with a smile hiding at the corner of his mouth.

oh my dog. the guy is fucking infatuated, at the very least.

so last night he told me how he was alone with the guy at his house and how he wanted to hug or kiss the guy, and they didn't. at least not until he was about to leave, where (i imagine) the other guy gave him a quick hug. the supposedly had this minor throat infection, so he didn't want to kiss because karlos might catch it. "it's not that was horny," karlos would repeat over and over; he just wanted to cuddle with this other guy. i don't know if his insisting on that was a way of convincing himself that he's not just after sex with this guy. and i feel so cold-hearted even as i type that last sentence.

the problem is, karlos thinks that he's really liking this other guy, and the other guy is really liking him already, but neither are really admitting anything. "so it's M.U.," i told him one time he brought the subject up. "malabong usapan" no, M.U. usually stands for "mutual understanding" but what that means really is a vague (mis)understanding that two people are a couple without either one actually confirming that that is the case. which might turn out to be *not* the case.

see? malabong usapan nga.

i already forgot most of what we talked about during that 18 minute phone call. i fell asleep sometime after it. we talked about his (karlos') going to singapore tomorrow, how he will not be seeing the other guy for a week, how phone calls from singapore are gonna be expensive. "dude," i told him, "you could try voip."

i'm constantly telling karlos to make it clear with the other guy where exactly do they lie. i mean, it makes things so much simpler, knowing what one person is exactly to the other person. i told him that again last night. i don't know, the guy is obviously enjoying his situation.
