there is never enough sleep for me during daytime.

the company HR organized a video making contest. there are two categories: short documentaries and short fictional narratives (which includes music videos, for some reason).

it's an interesting idea, and it certainly has an appeal for me. i often needed a reason (or at least an excuse) for doing anything, and this is an excuse to try making a video. besides, it's something else to do, other than routine work.

according the contest guidelines, "a team is given freedom on the content of their submitted works, so long as the video does not exceed the maximum total running time of 15 minutes and does not deal with issues of profanity; use vulgar and sexually provocative words; promote any commercial product; and violate any provision in the employee handbook."

  • "freedom on the content" sounded good in writing. however, i've grown very cynical on how conservative corporate bosses could be, especially when dealing with any type of creative expression made by employees.

  • "does not deal with issues of profanity; use vulgar and sexually provocative words" - hah. so does that mean sexually provocative images are allowed? am i allowed to submit porn, so long as the actors don't say anything?

it's also specified that "Videos should promote a chosen core value for the quarter. For this quarter, the core value is Integrity." and now we've seen the cherry on top.

too bad i never learned how to raise my eyebrows properly. giving a theme like integrity usually meant token depictions of the importance of telling the truth or some over-dramatized tableau on standing up for one believes in, things like that. i live in a country where "quality" story-telling meant having an obvious moral at the end of the story. it's like filipinos not getting a joke is a joke unless one says "joke!" at the end. and then everybody laughs.

still, this is something that could be done. deadline would be in three weeks. i'll see if i could come up with something.
