beer, gay men, and songs.

how long has it been since i was last in sarah's? a vague number of months. probably at least four. it's rare that i get to go back to UP these days.

it was a long day: what with a night's shift, raiding greenhills with girlfriends for crepes and a new phone, then meeting up friends in trinoma (and having a glass of smoothie with vodka). i'm getting more used to extended periods of being awake, but i can't escape the fact that it's so draining. by the time i was in the cab going to diliman, i was nodding in and out of sleep. i actually missed the intersection leading to c. p. garcia; it's good that we just reached the checkpoint when the driver asked me for directions, so we weren't so far off from going to sarah's.

i always remember the place for their really grumpy waitresses. i call them waitresses, but please take away images of an actual bar in your head. sarah's is nothing more than a road-side inuman place that's a bit on the dingy side, with a little bit of seediness thrown in for good measure. it has no pretentions to ambiance or fashion or even character. it's just a no bullshit inuman place, and we love it for that.

the really grumpy waitresses were gone. the girl who served us drinks was actually pretty friendly. that was a change.

over beer, we've realized how tiny the diliman universe could be like. mentioning names of friends and exes and realizing how the other people know the same people. take lawrence, who's friends with my first boyfriend. we were batchmates in diliman and were remembering the freshmen welcome concert where we saw e'heads playing songs from bananatype and sugar hiccup playing songs from womb. or russell, who's friends with people i'm friends or acquaintances with. both of us in turns were telling the other guys stories about one crazy girl we both know like we were describing a character from some surreal novel.

on one random night, i've seen three people i haven't seen in months, not including the people i agreed to meet up with. that's sarah's for you.

insert non-sequitur: one of the guys, jayvee, has an owl.

we ended the day in some karaoke place near philcoa and sang songs over more beer until the place closed down. the only other time i was there was when i asked kiko to join me over karaoke, oh maybe two years ago.

i think i still have some hangover.
