Rabbit food (or foraging for something edible in the fridge).

Anton decided he needed to diet to lose some inches. And so overnight, the fridge was stocked with fruit juices, tofu, leafy vegetables and oil-free salad dressing. Being the official cynic of the household, I knew well enough not to hold my breath for dramatic transformations on anyone. Anton didn't cook, so already I was wondering about the eventual fate of the tofu.

That was 2 or 3 days ago. Today is 3 more days before payday and I'm running low on cash. Not really surprising, that. Since it's my day off, I decided earlier to forage around the fridge for food and saw packs of cut arugula in the vegetable tray.

Oh man. One pack was only halfway consumed, another pack was yet to be opened and they'd been there for 2 days or so. I could tell I'll end up removing another science experiment if I didn't do anything about it.

I took the arugula from the opened pack, put them in bowl and checked other items I could salvage from the fridge. There were pickles, black olives and pickled papaya (achara). I added them in the bowl (arranged rather artfully) and took Anton's oil-free French dressing. Actually I currently had some Italian dressing myself, but I was wondering what's the difference between French and Italian salad dressing other than the French dressing being clear.

I sprinkled some French dressing on my salad and tried it. French dressing tasted like pickling fluid: strong vinegar, sugar and some herbs. I decided to sprinkle some Parmesan and black pepper on the thing to counteract that strong vinegar taste.

It wasn't bad, but I think I'll stay with the less sour Italian dressing. When I had the lettuce heads last week, I made a salad out of those, pineapple tidbits, and fried bacon sprinkled with Italian dressing. It tasted better, although I suspect it's because of the pineapples.

I had been writing this in bits and sections all day. I went through the fridge again looking for ingredients for supper. (I made soup from penne, ground beef, black olives and milk; unfortunately we ran out of salt so in the end I used the Parmesan again to add saltiness to the soup.)

The tofu is gone. Perhaps it fulfilled it's destiny, after all. That's one less science experiment to worry about.

perhaps it transformed into a human being and just decided to step out of the door all stark naked.

But I've yet to see Leo stark naked.

Oh. I definitely don't wish to see Leo stark naked. Oh, my brain! It bleeds!
