paint it black.

last year, back when i was still looking for a place to move in to, i thought it would be great if i could get an apartment with walls painted in black. the furnitures would mostly be in black, with a few accent pieces in rich, dark red, maybe some in dull bronze. i blame the lifestyle channels in cable for making me want to get a DIY designer room because they make it seem so easy redecorating a place against all known experience.

the black-painted rooms remain an odd-ball fantasy and maybe i'll do that once emo's no longer popular in the 'pines, otherwise friends who drop by my place might start looking for side-parted curtains with spiky accents. or a shoe rack full of vans.

most apartments you find here have plain white or ecru-colored walls but when i finally found an apartment, i didn't even get to have that. somehow the building's architects decided that a plain wall is boring so they applied a plywood paneling on the lower half on the wall. i think they may be hoping to achieve an effect like this but it ended up as a major failure because, well, because it was made using thin plywood.

i could live in an apartment with plain white walls if i could acquire tables like these:

tables with tentacles! how awesome is that? the narrow table reminds me of the tentacled alien tech from the war of the worlds. and could you see how precariously balanced the wider table looked:

it seems like it will just about topple over any time.

these tables were from a korean designer named chul an kwak who had them exhibited for seoul design week 2007. pretty old table designs but they're still pretty nifty.

while in the cab on my way to work, it hit me that it's may already and i really should decide if i will be renewing the lease to the apartment (which will expire in the middle of the month). but that also requires another round of house-hunting as well as inquiries with the apartment office on the process for lease renewal. not to mention moving stuff over should i find another apartment to move in to.

i guess i ought to seriously ask myself if i want to go through the hassles of moving out all over again.

I want my hypothetical den look exactly like that. I want it monochromatic, i have tons of ideas and plans already. Black-painted walls, red ceiling, white furnishings, and my collection of artworks from local artists. Ang saya! Oops plus my authentic iranian-made persian carpet to give character.

sounds interesting. and you should post photos of the carpet, i want to see it.

my idea is to hang masks on the plain walls (i wish i have a maiden noh mask, that would scare the shit out of a lot of people).
