certified tween!

is it me, or is there something wrong with the placement of that green thing?

i asked the guy sitting next to me at work about this photo. i guess it's me who put too much wrongness into this.

i came across a posted link for samconcepcion.net in multiply. what caught me is the amazing title used for the site's homepage:

The Official Website of the Certified Tween Heartthrob, Sam Concepcion!

first thing i thought was, "what the fuck's a tween"?

the "tween" i know of, is the animation effect of one image fading while another image becomes more focused to replace it. at least that's how it's called in adobe image ready. a quick search in dictionary.com gave this definition:

"tween, tweeny. -noun
a youngster between 10 and 12 years of age, considered too old to be a child and too young to be a teenager."

ah.

second thing i thought was, "there's an official certification for heartthrobs?"

it's marketese, i know. apparently it sells more when a product is marketed as "certified" - gives it more supposed credibility and (hopefully) sellability.

and i guess it works. daryl and i roll our eyes when we see shirts with prints like "certified emo"; and the sad thing is there's damn too many of those shirts sold.

certified emo. let's not even go there.

speaking of eyes rolling, i went to the website and went inside the main site (the homepage was really just a splash page advertising said heartthrob's second single). the main page has this for its title:

SamConcepcion.Net | The Official Website of the Philippine's Youngest Heartthrob and Superstar, Sam Concepcion!

superstar, huh. damn exclamation points.

they did it in the 50's too with all those buzz-words like "certified", "best" and such that suddenly popped out at the end of commercials.

yeah. after years of hyped marketese, some people are naturally suspicious of products marketed with superlatives and certifieds.

Tween?!!? What the fuck?! That's so gay. And he looks so gay. Ahahahaha!

not that i'll have a lot of issues if he was.

the thing about the term tween and being gayish is because it was coined for 10 to 12 year old girls, i think. i doubt any boy around that age would let anyone call him a tween, let alone consider sam concepcion his personal heartthrob.

uh. i guess some boys would.
