kuya, pwede patawag ng taxi?

i overtook a couple a little beyond the first guardhouse of the apartment compound on my way to the main road for a cab. at quarter to two in the morning, they were the only other people walking along the private road.

i noticed that they were looking at me when i passed. a few moments later, the girl called me: "kuya, pwede patawag ng taxi? (could you call a cab for us?)" without stopping, i looked back to them with an eyebrow raised (which i doubt they saw) and a disbelieving expression (which i hope they did).

they couldn't have mistook me for one of the apartment caretakers; they wore uniforms which are so different from my get up. i know i'm not the snappiest dresser but i don't think i looked like a pedicab driver. i think they really just wanted me to call a cab for them.

but i didn't.

one, the main road is less than 20 meters from where we were standing. that's the just 25 or so steps away which is definitely not a long walk. two, neither of them looked ill nor drunk. they seemed to be capable of walking ang getting a cab themselves. at 2 in the morning, there are several cabs parked outside the apartment compound.

i thought they were just too lazy to walk that last few meters and wanted a cab to fetch them from where they are, and they wanted me to call a cab for them. before i overtook them, i heard them calling for the attention of a cab driver who either didn't here or ignored them.

when i got to the main road, i asked for cab, got in, and asked to be driven to makati for work.

it's sad that it had to be blind panic that "inspired" me to finish the drawings, but that's what happened. it was the rush of not having any time left that finally overcame the stupid creative block i've been having for the longest time.

for weeks now, i felt like a hack. or, as jowein put it, i was "terribly underinspired. and that's hardly [my] fault, what, when [i've] been left to invent [my] own happiness this long?" i know i will be using that lovely sentence of hers there one of these days.

sure, terribly underinspired. i still couldn't force myself to producing a half-decent drawing unless i let time ran out and work only on borrowed moments.

my apologies to aggie for the ridiculous delay on the drawings. i'm so glad you liked them.
