"When I got enough confidence, the stage was gone. When I was sure of losing, I won. When I needed people the most, they left me. When I learned to dry my tears, I found a shoulder to cry on. And when I mastered the skills of hating, somebody started loving me."
The attribution was to William Shakespeare. Although the meaning of the message was life affirming, I don't think it was a Shakespeare quote at all. Anybody who has a passing interest in or a cursory knowledge of Shakespeare's works would realize that the writing style is not like Shakespeare's.
It seems the Internet can't place the source of the quote, either. All I get are links to sites compiling SMS quotes, most of them attributing it to Shakespeare.
A version of this quote was posted to a blog in February 2009 (probably the earliest version of the quote I could find online):

"You know when I got enough confidence to present my view about the matter on the stage, the stage was gone. But when I was sure to lose, I won the stage. That is called as life."
It may be that the blog owner was the one who wrote that passage. Or they were quoting it from a source that is unknown to us. I don't feel like spending more time figuring this out and will leave the next literary nerd to figure out the answer.

Oy, idiots. As I keep telling you, JD, you've got too many acquaintances.
If you can't keep em outta your life, at least keep em outta your inbox.
The thing about Shakespearean quotes is that they have different voices, coming from different characters. Benedick, for example, doesn't talk like Richard III. But on the other hand, the phrasing of this "quote" isn't even Elizabethan, much less Shakespearean. "Got confidence", "shoulder to cry on" "master the skills" are all present-day idioms. You could tell your texter to read some Shakespeare before sending any quotes. :D
